The above object is an oil lamp, obviously fashioned to resemble a grenade. Here is the subtler sister, more like an apple than a bomb:



It reminds me of nothing so much as the rolling fruit that stopped Atalanta in her tracks in Greek mythos. Nicolas Colombel created a good representation of the moment:
