Cold War Crafts

Ceramic housewares by Desert Arts Pottery are sleek and bright, marked by the simple, swooping curves that are so characteristic of 1950s "Atomic" design. Of course, there are exceptions to that aesthetic, like this minty horse:

Dana Flemming, the sculptor behind the shop, seems to be creating a gleaming domestic bestiary, perfect for fans of Monsanto's "House of the Future" or George Orwell's Animal Farm. She frequently casts her pieces from vintage molds. Most of the items offered by Desert Arts Pottery cost roughly $50.
