New England Textures



These amusing mugs are called "loons in the pickerelweed". (You could say that they're loony! Hyuk hyuk hyuk.) Pickerelweed Pottery is an eccentric little boutique. Here's a quote from the shop description: "Pickerelweed is a rhizomatic, wetland perennial found in ponds and shallow rivers throughout the eastern US. It has a broad flat leaf that emerges on a thin tubular stock. In late summer a purple rod-like flower appears. [...] My imagery tends to be inspired by elements of the natural world in northern New England and the Adirondacks. I enjoy the steady rhythm, of the carving process." Kerry Shea goes on to say that she "works almost exclusively in porcelain for its creamy white color and sensuous texture. Pots are painted in black (or dark green) slip and then carved with images from the natural world to achieve a woodcut appearance." She also uses other styles:

  1. Their palette and textures appeal to me. It's simple, has clean lines and feels authentic. Quite lovely.
